A Time for Healing Project (ATHP) was created and founded in 1999 by Mr. Isaiah Owens, a Harlem businessman (owner of Isaiah Owens Funeral Home), community leader, recording artist and minister. Mr. Owens, a New Yorker felt that violence begetting violence was becoming too much the norm. Several major crimes had divided people worldwide on racial, religious, and social values. Mr. Owens assembled a group of religious, community leaders and politicians in an effort to find a solution with the overall them being reconciliation.

Deeply moved by the tragic and untimely death of John F. Kennedy, Jr., Mr. Owens sponsored a service on July 23, 1999 to honor “John John”, Carolyn and Lauren’s memories as well as the Kennedy legacy on behalf of the African-American community. During the passing of JFK, Jr., he found that there were so many years of service and sacrifice. Two days prior to the service, Isaiah placed a wreath outside his business along with a funeral register for people to sign and express their feelings. In the course of five hours, 1,500 people signed the book resulting in international news coverage. The unconditional act of sharing resulted in three books filled with several thousand signatures. After reading many of the numerous expressions of love from the community and beyond, he was motivated to do more. Thus, A Time for Healing Project was born. Since then, he was solely sponsored a Time of Healing. The public benefits and demand now exceed his capabilities. Sponsor support is needed, for more information; please contact us.

Elected officials, community leaders and celebrities have attended including Judge Mathis, Mary Wilson, Ossie Davis and Governor George Pataki. Governors and heads of countries around the world have also sent salutations.
